Jeremy McCarthy, an abuse survivor, and the only survivor wishing to speak, stated during the press conference that his desire was that \u201cthe more people that come forward, the more light shown on the issue will stop the abuse.\u201d As part of the settlement, the names of 17 monks were released\u2014though none have yet been charged with any crimes.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"480\" height=\"390\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/lCCo9u2F9U8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/lCCo9u2F9U8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"480\" height=\"390\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Jeff Anderson &amp; Associates, located in St. Paul, has a history of fighting for the protection of children and justice for those already harmed. Especially since many of the victims of clergy abuse have suffered for a long time before coming forward, the firm&#8217;s commitment to bringing these cases to light have done a service those still suffering and to justice in general. As he says in the press conference \u201c[those coming forward] and [choosing] to speak up late in life, later than the abuse occurred, and then [choosing] to take action, gave me and us the opportunity to work with them&#8230;to protect other kids from harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- The firm has consistently championed the rights of children. As with the St. John's Abbey of Collegeville settlement, part of their strategy is to try to force more transparency on a reluctant church. The firm is also calling for the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/andersonadvocates.com\/Posts\/Blog\/720\/Jeff-Anderson A-good-start%3b-but-to-protect-children-we-need-names.aspx\" _mce_href=\"http:\/\/andersonadvocates.com\/Posts\/Blog\/720\/Jeff-Anderson A-good-start%3b-but-to-protect-children-we-need-names.aspx\">release of names and more transparency<\/a> in a similar case in Philadelphia.\n\nThis represents a small step towards making the Catholic Church more transparent and responsive, especially in cases as extreme as clergy sexual abuse.
