I happen to know the monk pictured and know for a fact that his name is not present on the list of offenders released by the Abbey. In fact, this particular monk was not even in monastic formation when the last criminal sexual activity occurred on campus.

<!-- That brings me to my second point: While the last allegation against a St. John’s monk was brought forward in 2004, the last criminal sexual activity occurred in the 1980s. That is more than 20 years without having a substantial accusation against one of the brothers or fathers here. Many current students were not born the last time a monk engaged in behavior that was criminal. In no way am I attempting to exonerate the guilty monks — their behavior was lewd and unchristian. However, I do want to make the assertion that the university is safe. It is possible to respond to the news without demonizing the subject of the news. I know for a fact that many monks felt demonized and ostracized by the Record’s article.
