Abbot Timothy T. Kelly, O.S.B., who served as abbot of St. John\u2019s Abbey in Collegeville, Minn., and earlier was pastor of St. Anselm\u2019s parish in the Bronx, died Oct. 7 in Collegeville, CNY has learned. He was 76.<\/p>\n
He was elected abbot of St. John\u2019s Abbey in 1992 and served for eight years. He was elected abbot president of the American-Cassinese Congregation in 2001 and served for nine years in that capacity. The congregation consists of 20 independent Benedictine monasteries in the United States and Puerto Rico, and in six other countries.<\/p>\n
He was pastor of St. Anselm\u2019s, 1970-1972, after serving as parochial vicar from 1964 to 1970.<\/p>\n
Born in Milwaukee, Wis., he entered the Benedictine order in 1954 and professed vows as a monk the next year. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1961 after completing his theological studies at St. John\u2019s University in Collegeville.<\/p>\n
He is survived by a sister, Denise Ann Kelly.<\/p>\n
