(SC Times) COLLEGEVILLE \u2014 Like most in the college football world and beyond, St. John\u2019s coach John Gagliardi has been shocked by the sex-abuse scandal that has rocked head coach Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program.<\/p>\n
Jerry Sandusky, the longtime former Penn State defensive coordinator, has been charged with sexually-assaulting eight boys across a 15-year period. Tim Curley, the school\u2019s athletic director, and Gary Schultz, the vice president for finance and business, have been charged with perjury and failure to report what they knew of the allegations to authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just awful,\u201d Gagliardi said of the allegations against Sandusky. \u201cJust awful. If they\u2019re true, I don\u2019t know if there is enough punishment in the world for a guy like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paterno, whose 409 career victories rank second only to Gagliardi\u2019s 483 in college football history, has not been charged with any legal wrongdoing. But he has faced a barrage of criticism for only alerting school officials and not the police when he was informed of a 2002 incident involving Sandusky witnessed by a graduate assistant.<\/p>\n
