Father Anthony Ruff\u00a0remains on the staff at St. John’s University [ Link<\/a>\u00a0] despite credible allegations of sexual misconduct and retaliation, after which he was sent to the Saint Luke Institute in Maryland for more than one\u00a0year.\u00a0Father Anthony Ruff also remains involved with the National Catholic Youth Choir.<\/p>\n

You will not find\u00a0Father Anthony Ruff’s name listed on the abbey’s web site of credibly accused monks because his victim was over the age of eighteen. More<\/a><\/p>\n

An internal memo [ View as PDF<\/a>\u00a0]\u00a0from Abbot John Klassen in April of 2002 includes:<\/p>\n

“From March 3-5 I attended a \u201cCritical Personnel Issues\u201d Conference in\u00a0Washington, DC, that was co-sponsored by Southdown Institute and Saint\u00a0Luke’s Institute.<\/strong> There were about 150 participants and there were\u00a0nine separate workshops on a range of issues that emerge in working\u00a0with people in religious life. I was also able to meet with Father\u00a0Anthony Ruff<\/strong> and his team for a conversation and assessment of program\u00a0goals for Anthony.” – Abbot John\u00a0Klassen,\u00a0April of 2002<\/p>\n

and<\/p>\n

“Father Anthony Ruff is in the last stage in-patient treatment at Saint\u00a0Luke’s Institute.” –\u00a0Abbot John\u00a0Klassen,\u00a0April of 2002<\/p>\n

and<\/p>\n

“I think that it is very important for us to resist the facile\u00a0connections between pedophilia and homosexuality\u00a0(there isn’t one); pedophilia and celibacy\u00a0(there isn’t one);\u00a0pedophilia and maleness (there isn’t one);\u00a0pedophilia and priesthood (there isn’t one).”\u00a0–\u00a0Abbot John\u00a0Klassen,\u00a0April of 2002<\/p>\n
