Benet Tvedten, OSB, Oblate Director at Blue Cloud Abbey in South Dakota, has graciously permitted the\u00a0editors of The Oblate to reprint his article on the recent Oblate Directors\u2019 Biennial Meeting at St Martin\u2019s Abbey\u00a0in Lacey, Washington. Fr. Greg Miller, OSB, and Fr. Allen Tarlton, OSB, also attended this meeting.<\/em><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Benedictines Across North America Meet, Discover Insights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dear Oblates,<\/p>\n<p>I have returned from the biennial meeting of the North American Association of Benedictine Oblate\u00a0Directors. This year it was hosted by St. Martin\u2019s Abbey and St. Placid\u2019s Priory, both in Lacey,\u00a0Washington. A little over a hundred directors and oblates attended. The theme of the conference was\u00a0\u201cThe Charism of Benedictine Leadership.\u201d The speakers were Abbot Peter Eberle, former Abbot of\u00a0Mt. Angel Abbey, Oregon, and now Abbot President of the Swiss-American Congregation, and Sister\u00a0Jacquelyn Ernster, former Prioress of Sacred Heart Monastery, Yankton. After meeting so many oblates\u00a0from all over the country and being at the tables with them during the small group discussions, I\u00a0came away deeply impressed by these oblates. They have a good knowledge of Benedictine spirituality\u00a0and are sincerely committed to it. And as is the case most everywhere else, not all of these oblates\u00a0are Roman Catholic. The conference theme of leadership was clearly manifested by those oblates\u00a0who were present bearing the title \u201cAssociate Oblate Director.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Br.
