On November 27, 2014,\u00a0after an accident and field sobriety test,\u00a0Saint John\u2019s Preparatory School principal Matt Reichert was arrested [ News<\/a>\u00a0] by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department [\u00a0Booking<\/a>\u00a0].<\/span><\/p>\n

Reichert [\u00a0Prep Profile<\/a>\u00a0] was reportedly heading\u00a0home following a Prep School\u00a0<\/span>faculty social at Partners Pub in Sartell.<\/span><\/p>\n

How will the school handle the matter? The school’s handbook is clear with regard to students, but not faculty. According to the Prep\u00a0handbook, a\u00a0student who\u00a0violates the school’s substance policy\u00a0“in an egregious manner in frequency or severity\u00a0…\u00a0may be suspended or dismissed.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The real question is…\u00a0how will Abbot John Klassen, head of the Prep School [ View<\/a>] , handle the matter?<\/p>\n

If handled in the same way Klassen has handled other matters involving\u00a0alcohol and other misconduct, Reichert could be up for a promotion.<\/p>\n

Reichert is the second\u00a0current<\/strong>\u00a0Prep School administrator who has had public issues with alcohol. Three\u00a0recent Prep School headmasters\u00a0have been accused of other misconduct.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Father Jonathan Licari, OSB<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite\u00a0past, credible allegations of alcohol abuse and inappropriate conduct with a minor [\u00a0View<\/a>\u00a0], Father\u00a0Jonathan Licari, OSB was named\u00a0Prep School Headmaster\u00a0in April of 2013.\u00a0In October of 2013, Licari was also exposed for his role in the coverup of abuse by Father Dominic Keller [\u00a0View<\/a>\u00a0]. \u00a0Father Licari is still headmaster and is Reichert’s boss.<\/p>\n

Father Timothy “Timo” Backous, OSB<\/strong><\/p>\n

In June of 2014, a newspaper [\u00a0View<\/a>\u00a0]\u00a0reported allegations of misconduct by Father Timothy “Timo” Backous, OSB. Father Backous\u00a0stepped down from his role as Prep School Headmaster in 2013.\u00a0After the news article appeared, another witness to misconduct (involving a different child) Backous came forward. The results of the investigation into misconduct by Father Backous, like other Abbey members [ View<\/a> ], have yet to be released.<\/p>\n

Father Tom Andert, OSB<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former Prep School Headmaster Father Tom Andert, OSB was publicly accused of misconduct in 2007 [ View<\/a>\u00a0]. Father Andert’s\u00a0love letters to that same\u00a0Prep School student were made public in 2010 [ View<\/a> ]. According to the abbey’s web site [ View<\/a> ], Father Tom Andert is prior (second in command under Abbot John Klassen) at Saint John’s Abbey, a position he has held since 2007.<\/p>\n

Abbot John Klassen Must Decide<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Screen<\/a>Following allegations of misconduct, Abbot John Klassen promoted both Father\u00a0Andert\u00a0and Father Licari\u00a0— and has publicly stood behind Father\u00a0Backous [ View<\/a> ], who maintained his very visible presence at Johnnie football games this season.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see how Abbot Klassen\u00a0handles the Reichert matter.<\/p>\n
