Credibly accused Saint John’s Abbey monk perpetrator\u00a0Father Anthony Ruff\u00a0wrote\u00a0a psalm that will be used during\u00a0Pope Francis’ visit to the United States later this week.<\/p>\n

While Father Ruff’s psalm has received some\u00a0attention (Saint Cloud Times<\/a>, \u00a0Saint Cloud Diocese<\/a>,\u00a0Catholic Herald<\/a>),\u00a0credible\u00a0allegations of sexual misconduct against Father Ruff have yet to\u00a0be publicly acknowledged\u00a0by the leadership at Saint John’s Abbey.<\/p>\n

Father Anthony Ruff was\u00a0credibly accused\u00a0of not only\u00a0sexual misconduct but also of\u00a0retaliation against his victim, another monk from Saint John’s Abbey.<\/p>\n

The misconduct reportedly took place during the summer of 2000. \u00a0The\u00a0monk later left the monastery.<\/p>\n

Despite an internal\u00a0memo\u00a0from John Klassen referencing\u00a0Anthony Ruff’s subsequent\u00a0eighteen\u00a0month stay\u00a0at Saint Luke Institute [ View as PDF<\/a>, Page 6 ], Abbot John Klassen has yet to comment publicly about Father\u00a0Ruff’s misconduct or his treatment at Saint Luke. The abbot’s silence is\u00a0likely due to the abbey’s\u00a0decision to not recognize sexual abuse and other credible allegations of misconduct against non-minors. [ Link<\/a>\u00a0]\n

In May of 2015, this web site\u00a0reported that, “Father Anthony Ruff\u00a0remains on the staff at St. John’s University\u00a0despite credible allegations of sexual misconduct and retaliation.”<\/p>\n

Last week, it was announced that Pope Francis will use psalm by St. John\u2019s monk Father Anthony Ruff. According to the Saint Cloud Times [\u00a0Link<\/a>\u00a0], “the psalm will be used in the Pope\u2019s service for U.S. bishops on Wednesday at St. Matthew\u2019s Cathedral.”<\/p>\n

Father Ruff was quoted in\u00a0Saint Cloud Times:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m extremely excited that the Pope will sing my music and all the bishops will see my name in the program.\u201d<\/p>\n

We respectfully request that monk-perpetrator Father Anthony Ruff’s name not be included in the program and have reached out to the Cathedral regarding this issue.<\/p>\n
