Students from the Twin Cities area who read the Sept. 7th issue of Time may have been pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face among the pages of America’s most widely read news magazine. Sporting a suit coat and tie, Finian McDonald OSB, Director of Counseling and Career Services at St. John’s, is pictured in a full page ad plugging Thrifty Scot Motels. The caption beneath reads: “I prefer Thrifty Scot, because it’s just a motel and that’s just exactly what I want.” – The Record (September 25, 1981)
