The Prep Community will commemorate the Feast of St. Scholastica, twin sister of St. Benedict with a prayer service on Wednesday, February 6th at 9:30 am. Sr. Helene Mercier, OSB of St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph will preside.
The Lenten Season begins with Ash Wednesday, February 13th. The Prep Community will gather for the Blessing and Signing with Ashes and the celebration of the Eucharist at 9:20 AM. School chaplain, Fr Michael [Bik], will preside and preach. All are invited to join us. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and the Fridays of Lent are meant to be days of fasting and abstinence from meat. In keeping with this practice, the “Snack Bar” will not be serving meat on these days.
“Penny wars” will begin on February 13th through Friday, February 22nd. After some study, we have decided to “adopt” an orphanage for girls in Tanzania conducted by Benedictine Sisters to be the recipient of our “penny wars” Lenten collection.
The Upper School Reconciliation Service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 6th at 9:20 AM in the Assumption Chapel of the Abbey Church. The date for the Reconciliation Service for the Middle School is not yet determined. On Wednesday, March 13th, the entire school will gather once again in the Assumption Chapel at 9:20 AM for the Lenten devotion, The Stations of the Cross. Students in Fr Michael’s Ministry Seminar will prepare and conduct the Service.
On Thursday, March 21st, the Prep Community will celebrate the Feast of St. Benedict with a Eucharist at which School President, Fr Gordon, will preside. Campus Ministry will conduct its annual “Bunny Raffle—Win a Bunny for your honey! ” March 25th – 27th. The proceeds will go to Woman House in St. Cloud.
Confirmation classes have begun. The candidates are meeting weekly with Fr Michael to review the basic tenets of the Catholic Faith. Each candidate has three secret “prayer partners” from the SJP faculty/Staff who are remembering them in prayer during their preparation time. The Candidates will be involved in the Ash Wednesday School Mass, and will attend the Blessing of Oils & Eucharist on March 21st at the Cathedral of St. Mary in St. Cloud. Confirmation is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th at Sts Peter & Paul Parish in Richmond.
