Top 20 Catholic Colleges

St. John’s University was NOT named as one of the Top 20 Recommended Catholic Colleges by The Cardinal Newman Society.

At least three of the top 20 share their campus with a Benedictine abbey.

None of the three Benedictine institutions on the list, however, house dozens of sexual offenders, a complicit community and a deceitful leadership.

According to The Cardinal Newman Society, “there is a genuine crisis on many other Catholic campuses.”

There is an ongoing, self-inflicted, crisis at St. John’s. [ More ]

The decision to separate the University from the Abbey [ View ] is a step in the right direction.

According to a recent press release:

“The university will remain as a major educational and pastoral work of the abbey, and the monks of St. John’s will remain a vital part of the university.” – Koopman and Klassen [ View ]

Which monks? How vital? How does the involvement compare to years past? What led to the decline?

Answers to these questions will not be made public because they are embarrassing.

When will St. John’s be able to make claims similar to these:

St. Gregory University (Shawnee, Oklahoma) features a “Catholic environment reflecting Benedictine abbey influence” and “has programs for student evangelization and interaction with monks.”

“The presence of the Abbey ensures a strong Benedictine influence,” at Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, North Carolina), “and promotes strong Catholic identity.”

At Benedictine College (Atchinson, Kansas), “Priests and sisters ensure continued Benedictine charism.”

It is worth considering… Have they ever?
