Two More Michael Weber Victims (#14 & #15)

Yet another individual has shared their account of sexual abuse by Michael Weber. The abuse took place in 1968 while Weber was a seminary student at St. John’s Seminary (now the Saint John’s School of Theology) in Collegeville, Minnesota. Weber was also a diocesan seminarian with the St. Cloud Diocese at the time of the abuse.

Your Turn: ‘Listening’ fails victims of sex abuse

I am writing in response to the Dec. 13 Times Our View, “Listening sessions give voice to all.” I participated in the listening session on Dec. 4 at Holy Spirit Parish. I was disappointed, shocked and even insulted by the glowing terms used in the Our View to describe listening sessions. The session on Dec. 4 was anything but glowing, unless you consider anger and frustration “glowing.”

As a family, we didn’t speak directly about the abuse until I confronted my parents while I was in treatment at the age of seventeen.  On several occasions over the past 30 years, we have discussed and tried to deal with all of the effects of the abuse (addictions, relationship problems, etc.) but rarely the abuse itself.” – Victim of Michael Weber

Our View: Listening sessions give voice to all

[Webmaster’s Note: The diocesan spin (below) on the failed first listening session is amazing. It was such a failure, in fact, that one of the moderators was in tears after the session and had to comforted… by a victim!! She later wrote, “I continuously consider why I serve in this role, as it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done as a social worker. I understand that my integrity as an advocate for victim/survivors has been questioned.” A second listening session was scheduled primarily because the diocese was not prepared to answer questions during the first session. The diocese DID separate everyone in attendance into “small groups” at the beginning of the meeting. Victims of Michael Weber were not only identified, but pulled from their support base.]
